Kozmic Sounds investigates the sonic environments of the Opava region, a small area in the Moravian-Silesian region of northeastern Czech Republic, bordering Poland. Bludný kámen, a local art association active in the region since 1995 and long engaged with sound, commissioned us in 2021 to begin exploring the changes and transformations of these local sonic environments.

The project focuses on the environments shaped by the Opava River that flows through the region, the adjacent Kozmické louky (Kozmice Meadows) wetlands, and the privately owned Kozmické ptačí louky (Kozmice Meadows Bird Reserve). The wet meadows – once severely degraded and now one of only two remaining floodplain meadow ecosystems along the Opava River – are in an ongoing process of restoration. Plant and animal life gradually return as the wetland transforms, even though it continues to face broader ecological pressures.

Kozmic Sounds listens closely to these shifts and actively participates in them by facilitating shared spaces, cultivating local relationships, inviting and commissioning local and international artists, and engaging with local communities.

The current form of Kozmic Sounds, a yearly symposium dedicated to Kozmické meadows, is based on several years of artistic research.
